POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for global brand management, strategy development, and operational implementation for all marketing channels (e.g., digital, video, social, web, print, graphics, podcasts & public relations). The Director builds marketing programs to advance the organizational strategic vision. They work with cross-functional senior leadership to assess the marketing needs of each department and provide comprehensive support to ensure their communications are timely, on-brand, and on-message. The Director of Marketing & Communications leads a team of internal staff through their recruitment, operational accountability, performance management, and career development. They assess the need for external vendors and contractors and oversee the identification and selection of supplemental resources as well as the management of their deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy: Works with relevant staff and lay leaders to create a comprehensive annual marketing strategic plan that includes multi-faceted business solutions utilizing all marketing channels for various audiences (e.g., international partners, participants, individual and institutional funders, and press).
- Collaborates with departmental leaders to create strategies for maximizing new and existing initiatives, programs, and services. Ensures brand standards, a global market and exceptional quality are reflected in all approaches.
- Evaluates the feasibility, risk, and reward of each element to help grow the organization.
Marketing Operations: Responsible for the creation and implementation of detailed work plans, including all marketing channels, to activate all aspects of the marketing strategic plan. Ensures adequate staffing and resources, clear prioritization, and strong project management.
- Spearheads the execution of messaging to address all activities and audiences, including participants, partners, vendors, funders, board members, and internal team members. Implements a strong process for reviewing and approving all marketing collateral and assets. Ensures appropriate alignment with global audiences, all relevant languages are represented, and proper content is translated.
- Develops and implements exceptional project management systems and tools ensuring clear roles and decision-making, timeline and budget management, streamlined approval processes and proactive progress monitoring.
- Retains agencies and consultants as appropriate, and holds vendors accountable for meeting deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Oversees the process for identifying, compiling and reporting all KPI’s, metrics, and results and recommends improvements based on outcomes.
- Builds and maintains strong, collaborative partnerships with department leaders to uphold Marketing & Communications commitment to exceptional thought partnership.
- Develops and manages the annual marketing budget.
Management: Hires, trains, supervises, and develops a strong internal team.
- Provides project direction, sets appropriate deadlines, directs the management of priorities, and effectively resolves unexpected problems or delays to keep workflow moving.
Development Liaison: Ensures the development team has strong internal client management so all aspects of donor stewardship can be addressed in a timely manner.
- Steers the marketing team to provide material for donor cultivation, solicitation meetings, and funder reports.
- Maximizes collaboration with Development for all joint programs (e.g., e-philanthropy, crowdfunding, and online campaigns).
Content Development/Editorial & Writing: Leads the team in developing innovative, informative, and engaging copy for a wide range of audiences and formats.
- Ensures meticulous editing and proofreading of all generated work including products generated by marketing staff, vendors, board members, and cross-functional leaders.
- Creates content as appropriate for projects including donor communication, annual reports, and organizational programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required; communications, marketing or journalism focus preferred
- 8-10+ years of relevant marketing experience in a related field. Preference for some years of experience to include non-profit, global, Jewish communal and/or fundraising environments.
- Minimum of five years managing staff: capacity to lead and develop a team’s skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues
- Successful track record in senior marketing role overseeing the full spectrum of marketing channels. Capable of both creative and art direction as well as attention to detail and process management
- Experience managing financial components of marketing programs (P&L, ROI)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strategic listening skills
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions strongly preferred
- Must have flexibility to work nontraditional hours including occasional evenings and Sundays, as needed to address time-sensitive business needs.

This is an exempt position. The salary range is $140,000 - $160,000 annually, depending on relevant experience.
